I am building a language of symbols. My work relies on the tension between ambiguity and definition. My subject matter comes from dreams, memories, found objects, and direct observation. Making a drawing of a drawing, or sketching a memory of a dream further removes the subject from its real self. A symbolic image is created, truer and richer than its reality. Along these lines, I believe strongly in the words of Gaston Bachelard who wrote, “we cover the universe with drawings we have lived. These drawings need not be exact. They need only to be tonalized on the mode of our inner space.”
